Gifts for mother of bride and mother of groom?

What are you folks doing (or what did you do) for presents for the moms? Do we get the dads stuff? Sorry for the questions lately- this only just occurred to me that I have no idea what a proper wedding present for them is. My bridesmaids are all set but parents?

ONE MONTH FROM TODAY OH GOD.

We did a gift from us as a couple to our parents as couples: a gift card to a nice restaurant where they live, enough to cover a full meal plus drinks. We also each wrote a letter to our own parents and to our in-laws, which we gave along with the gift card.

My in-laws used theirs the other week and were so happy, they were sending us pictures of the food and pictures of the menu asking what we would each other for dessert, etc. They had so much fun! And we loved feeling like we could treat them to a night out.

The letter is a great idea. Knowing my mom and FMIL they would both appreciate that more than anything else.

I'm getting my mother a hand painted plate with a nice message on it (she collects cool plates), and I'm getting my father and step-mother a piece of artwork (something like this). We'll be getting a nice piece of jewelry for his mother.

I had no clue what to get our families as gifts - I just knew that I absolutely wanted to do something because my parents contributed a lot to our wedding, and my mother-in-law welcomed me as a daughter from the moment she met me.

So I searched and agonized and eventually went to Etsy and stumbled upon this platter. Both moms cried when we presented them at the rehearsal dinner, so I think it was a hit. :)

I'm crying just reading that plate and thinking about how my mom would absolutely have cried if we'd given it to them.

This is a thing. The thought is generous and all but considering FH and I are paying a lot on our own for this wedding, I am not planning on spending more. I nice framed photo which has been suggested in another thread sounds like a great gift.

Yeah we're covering the wedding ourselves too... I didn't wanna go too crazy but I thought it'd be a nice gesture...

I'm following this!l for ideas! Does the bride buy gifts for MOG? Or should the groom do that?

level 2

I feel like the groom should do it, but I know mine won't..

I've seen a lot of stuff online that say things like, "Thank you for raising the man of my dreams." Search that phrase on etsy or amazon and a ton of stuff comes up. Necklaces, ring holders, soap dishes.

My groom is buying the gift for his mother, but I'm helping him pick it out. We're going to give her a locket with a picture of his father in it.

IMO, the groom should do it. But if you know your SO well enough, you'll know if you should be doing it yourself like I did. I don't even think he got his groomsmen gifts at all, now that I think about it, so I'm kinda glad I took the initiative.

Yeah I am buying gifts for his parents and am looking for ideas. I had to buy the groomsmen gifts too because it kind of slipped FH mind and he wanted something more personalized.

He says he keeps me around because I remember all the little details lol

I got both mothers a tote bag and a picture frame. Since my parents helped pay for the wedding and actually lifted a finger to help us plan it, I got my mom a necklace and my dad a tie bar of his favorite baseball team. I got my MIL something at least, but I figured if my husband wanted to get her something else, that was up to him. I regret not spending more on my parents because of all the support they gave us, but they would have preferred I didn't "waste" money on them. They both enjoyed having a gift to wear the day of the wedding though, and my mom has worn the necklace many times over while my dad is happy he gets to wear his baseball team around to those rare formal events.

Very helpful! Thanks!! When did you give these gifts to them? Day of? Rehearsal dinner?

The link didn't work, but I'd love to see the necklace!!

My husband (oh gosh) and I worked together on it. I made our mothers matching shawls and we wrote cute little notes on a tag. We got our fathers beer steins from a family friend that does pottery and wrote a few words on the bottom. And got all four matching shot glasses.

Awwww I love these ideas! I should have asked this earlier because I would have loved to make both the moms something!

Mother of the bride: bracelet with following inscription - "Today a bride, tomorrow a wife, forever your little girl"

Mother of the groom: bracelet with following - "thank you for raising the man of my dreams"

Father of Bride: cuff links 1 with "I'll always be your little girl" and the other with a photo of the two of us

Father of the groom: a hammer (he's a builder) with following printed on the handle - "Thank you for helping us build our lives together"

I love the hammer ideas!!! I saw that on etsy and if it were in budget I so would have done it! Sounds like you're all set!

MOB - Getting her a necklace and earrings to match an antique ring she bought while we were on a mother/daughter trip together. I was really psyched to come up with something that would have sentimental value to it!

FMIL & FFIL - FH had a camping-themed painting commissioned of their family since they're all into that as a family

Still working on FOB...hoping to find ideas in this thread!
